Gearbox has given Borderlands 4 players fair warning for what’s coming up next week.

The official update notes for this week came with this message:

Looking forward to next week, we anticipate another round of adjustments that will focus on Class Mods, Repkits, Shields, and Firmware being tuned to provide greater viability for melee builds, and account for deficiencies in other specific Vault Hunter builds.

We will also address unintended interactions in certain Vault Hunter skills, and make adjustments to overperforming gear.

The Devs Get In On It Too

Gearbox creative director Graeme Timmins then shared a personal message on Twitter:

Small update this week before a larger one next week. There will be some changes next week to specific gear and those unintended interactions, this is your 7 Days Notice 😉

Gearbox senior project producer Mario Rodriguez also chimed in with his own statement:

We have a few buffs this week but hold on to your butts because next week is going to be a good one.

We have a lot in store so get your reading glasses ready & your controllers/mouse & keys cleaned up ’cause you’re gonna wanna be playing with all the cool stuff our team has cooked.

No, Gearbox Did Not Forget Fixing Performance

If you are playing Borderlands 4 now, you will know that there are still performance issues Gearbox needs to fix to get it up to expectations.

But Gearbox is still working on that too. They shared this message to a fan who asked about it:

Next week’s update will have a bunch of improvements to stability and performance, plus some other quality-of-life changes.

In the meantime, if you’re having issues with a particular bug, drop us a support ticket and we’ll help you troubleshoot!

Are The Fans Ready For These Changes?

Of course, the fans knew that nerfs were looming on the horizon. Gearbox did promise that they would prioritize buffs for the Vault Hunters and their abilities. But of course, that wasn’t going to last forever.

What the fans should be hoping for isn’t that their favorite character or loadout isn’t affected. Ultimately, the nerfs should be about making the game fun.

As a co-op multiplayer shooter, Gearbox doesn’t think about balancing their characters in the same way that developers do for competitive games. Really, these changes will be about keeping the experience from getting too boring if the game becomes too easy.

We’ll see if Gearbox has a handle on all of this next week.
