Rumor: Red Dead Redemption 2 For Switch 2/PS5/Xbox Series X|S Really Exists

NateTheHate has stood up for a discredited rumor about Red Dead Redemption 2.

The Discredited Rumor

Last August, TREVOR4REAL claimed that Red Dead Redemption 2 was coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2. This rumor got fans excited to finally get a version of the game they wanted.

The problem with the rumor is that TREVOR4REAL said that the ports were going to be announced in August as well. As we can all clearly see, we received no such announcements.

NateTheHate Chimes In

NateTheHate shared his input on this rumor in a conversation on Twitter with videotechuk.

Videotechuk asked this question:

Are you absolutely certain with full confidence RDR2 Switch 2/Gen 9 updates exist? Realistically we have October and November, after that it’s likely full steam ahead on marketing for GTA.

NateTheHate then shared this response:

Yes, they exist. I have no update on timing for release.

What Is The Hold Up?

If NateTheHate and TREVOR4REAL’s information is accurate, there is a reason that the release of this port has been held back. And there’s reason fans expected Rockstar to release something for this year.

BeskInfinity shed light on this sentiment:

Since 2021 Rockstar Games has made yearly Re-Releases up until GTA6 launch but this year nothing

Rumors have been around for RDR2 coming Switch 2 PS5/XBSX Versions and I think it’s true and we are gonna see it very soon. Potentially this month alone

BeskInfinity also shared a timeline of the games that have released in the past five years:

2021 – Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition

2022 – Grand Theft Auto V Expanded & Enhanced Edition

2023 – Red Dead Redemption for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch

2024 – Red Dead Redemption for PC

What Will Rockstar Do For 2025?

Rockstar famously delayed Grand Theft Auto 6 to May 2026. That definitely opens up the field for them to release a new version of Red Dead Redemption 2 before 2025 ends.

It’s not so much that Rockstar has to follow some secret rule about releasing a new game every year. But Grand Theft Auto 6’s delay does hurt its ability to make money for 2025.

They can still sell their games, and Grand Theft Auto Online will remain a reliable source of income. But if Rockstar can release another game than that’s what they’ll want to do.

Maybe It’s A Matter Of Synergy With Take-Two?

It’s possible that it’s Take-Two that has held up announcing Red Dead Redemption 2 for current generation consoles.

In the past two months, they just released Mafia: The Old Country, NBA 2K26, and Borderlands 4. The latter is also still set to release on the Switch 2 in an undetermined date.

Take-Two may have chosen to stagger Red Dead Redemption 2 to the last quarter of this year. The prior three games will be coming up in the 3rd quarter.

If this is the case, then Rockstar has their pick of a prime spot to release this game. They could ideally bring it out between Halloween and Black Friday, but not past that.

And if that’s the case, Red Dead Redemption 2 could serve to be a nice holiday present for console players to cap off the year. But that’s our best hope for this title.
