Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Removes Difficulty Options

August 26, 2025 by Dennis Patrick

It’s all baked in.

A new year and a new Call of Duty are upon us. We know that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is set to arrive this November. However, if you are fond of the campaigns these games offer, there’s a slight twist this time around. Normally, players can adjust the difficulty for their games for this IP. That’s not going to be the case this time around.

New information has surfaced online, and it deals with game difficulty. Or I should say it deals with the lack of options you have to adjust the difficulty of your gameplay experience. Instead, it looks like the developers are not giving you much of a choice at all to determine whether you need to crank the difficulty to your liking.

Developers Explain Why They Drop Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Difficulty Options

Those of you who are not aware, IGN recently had the chance to speak with the associate creative director behind the upcoming game, Miles Leslie. During their conversation, it was noted that the difficulty for this installment was baked in. Also, the reason for going this route was due to the cooperative multiplayer element.

We’ve built it for solo or four-player squads as well. You cannot pick a difficulty like past games. We’ve baked it in because you have to approach a co-op campaign differently, and we wanted to make sure the missions felt right for solo players — we’re not forgetting about you, we love you — but also because it is a social experience we want to make sure it’s fun, but the right amount of challenging for two, three, and four players as well.

That’s right, the campaign this time around can be enjoyed as a multiplayer experience. Up to four players can go through the campaign together. So, to prepare for how the game handles the number of players enjoying the campaign, the difficulty options will automatically be adjusted.

Now, the gameplay experience should be challenging enough for multiple players going through the campaign. Likewise, if you’re opting to solo play the campaign, then the difficulty will match the fact that only one player is connected.

We’ll have to see how well players take up with the campaign when it releases. That said, we do have a bit of time on our hands. Currently, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 won’t release until November 14, 2025. Meanwhile, it will have some stiff competition as the month prior, we have Battlefield 6 dropping into the scene.
