Battlefield 6 Variety Includes Bigger Maps, Play Styles, And More

August 15, 2025 by Ryan Parreno

The devs have to tweak that balance very carefully.

Battlefield Studios is reassuring fans that Battlefield 6 has the variety that they are looking for.

CharlieIntel shared this information on Twitter:

Battlefield 6 devs tells us in an interview they have seen feedback on map sizes in the beta, saying there’ll be bigger maps at launch.

“We have a lot of variety in this package from modes, from maps, from locations, from size, from different types of play styles.”

CharlieIntel may have been speaking to David Sirland. Sirland is a lead producer at EA DICE and Battlefield. We have also already been reporting on what he’s been telling fans.

Why Did The Beta Have Smaller Maps?

Earlier in the week, Sirland said this about the map sizes:

Speed is a factor of map size.

We picked these maps to make sure we hit the full-octane version of Battlefield on the head – and made everyone see we can handle that too.

Large maps exist, and the tempo scales accordingly, you’ll be able to see soon enough!

There’s No Popularity Contest For Closed Weapons

Battlefield Studios caused a stir even before the open beta started. They revealed players would get to choose open weapons or closed weapons in playlists.

Players are split down the middle about choosing open or closed weapons. Battlefield Studios seems to want players to always be able to choose.

Sirland was asked an interesting question about last weekend:

I’ve noticed in Weekend 1 and now that Closed Weapon is (almost) always at the end of the list. Players often just choose the first option, so is this a good way to test what’s more popular? Just a thought!

Sirland drew the line here:

We are not testing which variant is more popular – this isn’t a popularity contest. Just to be clear. It’s a valid way to play the game, we will officially support it. We added playlists (and the ability to) to the beta late.

We already discussed the merits of closed and open playlists in our earlier coverage. Battlefield Studios narrows down that experience to each player’s preference.

Even veteran and high level players did not seem to realize that Battlefield Studios could design their game like that. These developers definitely had to tweak balancing very carefully. There’s also a possibility that balance could collapse in the coming months of updates to follow. So it’s very important that Battlefield Studios pays close attention to their players.

And this extends to everything Battlefield Studios decided needed variety. They’ll have to balance out how often players enter small and big maps too. These and other decisions will be key to Battlefield 6 becoming a huge success for the months to come.
