Notch Will Receive BAFTA Special Award

There's something so appealing about being dropped into a world with nothing and having to scratch a living out of the dirt. With just your bare hands you dig in the dirt, knock down trees, create tools and weapons, construct mighty fortresses and (for the ingenious among us) weapons of war, and become just completely awsome.

Minecraft is just like that. It appeals to the creator in us all, tapping into the part of the human spirit that looks at wilderness and wants to tame it. So it's no surprise that Markus Persson (known as Notch to most) will be getting a BAFTA for his creative contributions to the games industry. When asked about the award, Notch had the following to say:

"I've always considered the BAFTA Awards to be one of the most prestigious awards one can receive, and I was very happy when it expanded to cover video games in 1998. When I first heard that I would receive a BAFTA Special Award, I was blown away and deeply humbled. Going to London to accept this award is going to be a very positive and interesting experience that I'm very much looking forward to."
