Video games can be an extremely expensive hobby. It’s not always easy picking up the latest game releases that drop into the marketplace. Sometimes it’s best to hold off and wait for those games to fall in price slowly. However, one aspect that is unlikely to drop in price anytime soon is the Nintendo Switch 2 console. Now, a new statement has been released by the president of Nintendo regarding the price point being a major factor for a generation of gamers.
If you haven’t shelled out the money for a brand new Nintendo Switch 2 console, you’re not alone. There are more than a few consumers who are having a tough time weighing out the decision of picking up a console unit. Thanks to Nintendo Everything, we’re learning that Shuntaro Furukawa, the president of Nintendo, was asked about the price point of a new console being too high for a younger audience.
This was reportedly asked during a recent shareholders’ meeting, in which the company’s president noted their current plans. It appears that Nintendo is focusing on a few aspects to cater to a younger audience. The idea is to provide an entertainment experience that extends beyond just game consoles. However, the ultimate goal for Nintendo is to bring these consumers onto the game console.
It is true that the Nintendo Switch 2 is more expensive than previous game consoles. We are creating various opportunities for young children to experience Nintendo characters and the world of games outside of game consoles, but one of the goals is that they will ultimately play on game consoles. At that time, we are paying close attention to how much of a hurdle the price of the game console will be.
While Nintendo believes they have priced the console to be commensurate with the gaming experience it provides, they acknowledge that it’s a more expensive console. As a result, they are still paying close attention to how much of a hurdle the price of the game console will be.
Of course, what they plan to do if they find that younger audiences are unable to acquire a console unit remains to be seen. For instance, they could eventually release a similar Nintendo Switch Lite system. That might drop the price tag just a little bit, making it an easier means to jump onto the console generation.
