Sony “Aware” Of Demand For New Crash Bandicoot But Has Nothing To Announce

May 19, 2016 by Stephen Daly

The company knows about the “reverence” in which the Crash franchise is held.

Sony is “aware of the considerable affection” for PlayStation mascot Crash Bandicoot but there is nothing to announce in relation to a new game “at this stage”.

SCEE president Jim Ryan made the comments in the latest issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine (as spotted by PSU). He commented “Um… we’re certainly aware of the considerable affection—even reverence—in which the mighty Crash is held. But nothing to update at this stage in that area.”

Uncharted 4 spoilers below.

Speculation regarding the fate of the Crash franchise was reignited earlier this month when it emerged that a level from the original game features in Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. Naughty Dog also developed Crash back in the day.

Neither Sony nor Crash IP-owner Activision have commented on the nature of the agreement which saw Naughty Dog use the game but Sony’s Adam Boyes did comment that Activision continues to own the rights to the franchise.

Activision has no public plans for the future of the franchise, with the last game, Crash: Mind over Mutant, launching in 2008 for PS2, PSP, Xbox 360, Wii, and Nintendo DS. Konami, Vivendi, and Sierra have all owned the Crash franchise at some point before it ended up with Activision.
