Paradox Interactive Announces Three New Titles at GDC

March 5, 2012 by Josh Harmon

The PC exclusives include a unique action RPG, a platformer, and a sci-fi themed DOTA-like with a twist.

Last month, Paradox Interactive announced that they'd be unveiling three new games at GDC 2012. Now that the event has officially kicked off, those three mystery titles have finally been revealed with some impressive announcement trailers.

The first game, Dungeonland, is a co-op dungeon crawler in the vein of Diablo or Torchlight, complete with randomly generated levels and loot. Set in a theme park designed to lure adventurers to their deaths, the title definitely wins some points for its hysterically original premise.

Perhaps the most promising aspect of the game is its four-player multiplayer, which allows one person to take on the role of the evil dungeon master and attempt to defeat the other three by controlling the enemy forces.

The Showdown Effect, from Arrowhead Game Studios, is a sidescrolling platformer that promises a wide arsenal of weapons and a ridiculous sense of humor. With multiple game modes and support for up to 8 players at once, The Showdown Effect looks to offer the same blend of action packed gameplay and silliness that made Magicka such a delight.

Finally, Zeal Games Studios brings us RED Frontier, an innovative title that looks to blend elements of MOBA, RTS, and FPS games in a sci-fi setting. With a persistent unlock system and 6 on 6 battles that allow players to seamlessly drop in and out of matches at any time, RED Frontier certainly looks to refine the genre that DoTA made famous, if not redefine it altogther.

All three games are currently slated for release on PC sometime later this year.
