We’re in an interesting period right now when it comes to cinema. Video games are getting some big adaptations, and they are actually turning out rather well. More successful adaptations are also driving increased interest in adapting these incredible game storylines into a cinematic experience. Today, we’re learning that Kinetic Games, an indie game studio known for Phasmophobia, has just announced that their video game is being picked up for a movie.
Phasmophobia is being picked up with the help of Blumhouse and Atomic Monster for producing this film. Both companies are known for producing horror films, including M3GAN, The Black Phone, Annabelle, and The Conjuring series. Therefore, there’s a good chance this adaptation will turn out well, given that it’s in the hands of companies known for their horror franchises.
Beyond that, we don’t have any insight into when the film will be released or how far production might be with this adaptation. It could be a good while before we learn much of anything about the movie, but at least we know it’s in the works.
Now, if you’re unfamiliar with Phasmophobia, this is a multiplayer horror game. It was released during a time when video games were really popping off. Initially released in 2020, the game emerged during a time when we were all facing the pandemic. The various orders around the globe kept people indoors and away from others. So, what better way to connect with friends than by playing video games?
As mentioned, this is a multiplayer horror game where players take on the role of paranormal investigators. You and your friends will have to use various tools to investigate a haunted home. It’s through these tools that you’ll try to identify the type of ghost haunting the building and deal with it.
While the game initially launched in 2020, the title is still expected to receive new and exciting updates throughout this year. It’s been confirmed through the Kinetic Games blog that we will see new content this year, including a rework to Grafton Farmhouse and a brand new map.
