Do you remember Ready at Dawn? The studio had recently closed down, but before then, they delivered a few notable games. Initially known for their PlayStation Portable games, such as Daxter and the two God of War titles, they eventually began to develop their own unique projects not long after. One of which was the 2015 PlayStation 4 exclusive release, The Order: 1886.
The game was an action-adventure title set in a steampunk version of London. Players were part of a group that fought off monsters, such as werewolves and vampires, from taking over. While the game was released and received praise for its visuals, there was plenty of criticism over its game’s overall story length. Still, Ready at Dawn was all for making this installment a part of a trilogy for the folks at Sony. That, unfortunately, never came to fruition.
Now, thanks to VGC, we’re finding out that the creative director for the game, Ru Weerasuriya, spoke with YouTuber Julien Chieze. According to the report’s translations, we’re finding out that the developers initially had a pitch for the sequel that would involve grander fights and a multiplayer component, something that was initially planned for the first game.
This was just the second game, The Order: 1891, but we learned that there was also a third installment, The Order: 1899. Again, Sony didn’t opt to continue with the series, and eventually, the studio was picked up by Oculus Studios.
It’s unfortunate that we didn’t get to see what this studio could have done with the franchise after getting the initial The Order: 1886 feedback from fans and critics. Perhaps the sequel would have turned things around. Of course, since then, we have seen Ready at Dawn achieve some success with VR, notably with games like Lone Echo and Echo Arena. But that wouldn’t last long, as the studio was eventually closed down last year.
