Dishonored 2’s Latest Screenshots Depict New Skills, Enemies, and Environments

May 17, 2016 by Nick Monroe

Join Emily and Corvo as they explore the scenic land of Karnaca.

D216IGN, PC Gamer, and Gamespot all recently published extended looks inside Dishonored 2. This information overload came with a plethora of new pictures to see, and we’ve gathered all of them for you here. It’s recommended you read over the articles themselves. They each tell a different part of the Dishonored 2 story.

Dishonored came out on October 9th, 2012 for the last generation of consoles and PC. Corvo Attano served as the Empress of the Isles bodyguard, and was framed her assassination. Corvo travels through Dunwall seeking revenge against the political party that took control after the murder, facing a corrupted Government and plague infested city along the way.

Dishonored 2 takes place 15 years after the first game, in the city of Karnaca. Emily and Corvo face off against the “Duke of Sarconos”, responsible for turning the “jewel of the South” city into a slum pit. Karnaca isn’t as dark and dangerous looking as Dunwall was, and you expect easier access to shops to upgrade your gear.

The Void is the name of the new engine that Arkane is using for Dishonored 2. It helps give better shaders and materials, upgraded lighting, and makes animation feel more fluid. The post-processing is designed to provide a higher quality finish to the look that Dishonored achieved.

Emily’s include the Domino effect, to link the fate of different guards together, causing them all to suffer the same demise. Emily doesn’t have Blink like Corvo does, but instead she uses Far Reach – an invisible tentacle that works as a pulling mechanism. It can grab items, but upgraded versions allow guards to be thrown, as well as whale oil canisters. Shadow Walk allows Emily to navigate tight gaps, taking on the form of a smoke beast to do so. Doppelganger creates an Emily clone that can create a distraction in a pinch.

Corvo will also come back, this time fully voiced as well. You’ll have the option to pick between him and Emily for a given segment, but you can’t freely switch between the two on the fly. He’s got all the powers from the first Dishonored, but with a much more substantial upgrade tree in Dishonored 2. Blink can now be upgraded with time-stop, similar to how Daud used it in the Dishonored DLC.

They’ll have a ship as their main hub, known as the Dreadful Wale. Anton Sokolov will return, providing transit to and from missions. The chaos system returns in an extended version. Chaos levels have an effect on in-game events and Corvo/Emily’s disposition. Non-lethal doesn’t mean you need to be 100% stealth now, as the system now allows you to choke a guard mid-battle and hide their unconscious body afterwards. But if you still trigger an alarm, Guards can now chase you and climb rooftops more freely.

Dishonored 2 comes out November 11, 2016 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. You know you can’t wait that long. But you’ll have to.
