Borderlands 4 Now Releasing Earlier Than Expected On September 12 With A State of Play Event Coming Soon

April 29, 2025 by Dennis Patrick

Well, this is a pleasant surprise.

Update:

It’s now been confirmed that a Borderlands 4 State of Play event is set to take place tomorrow. Tune in on April 30, 2025, at 5 PM ET to view new gameplay footage.

Original Story…

Normally, when we hear there is a change to a video game’s release date, it typically means that we are going to see the game pushed back. However, that’s not the case for Borderlands 4. Gearbox Software’s Randy Pitchford took to the internet and released a video that has since been delayed. However, the video has already been captured and shared around, alerting fans that they are going to see Borderlands 4 launch earlier than expected.

Initially, Borderlands 4 was set to launch on September 23, 2025. However, it’s now been moved a couple of weeks earlier. We’re now set to receive the game on September 12, 2025. Randy noted that the development process has been going well and has hit some best-case scenarios. As a result, they adjusted the release date and pushed it ahead early for fans.

But that wasn’t the only shred of news that Randy Pitchford revealed. He also noted that more game footage would be released during a PlayStation State of Play event. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a date attached to this event. That said, Randy noted that a State of Play is coming soon, so we should hear from official channels at Sony about when we can expect this presentation to take place.

Again, the original footage from Randy Pitchford was deleted as it seemed to have gone up earlier than planned. So, more information about this game’s release date could be coming our way later today. Still, it’s positive news and a nice change to the typical announcements regarding a game’s release date being adjusted.

That said, if you’re interested in Borderlands 4, then you can expect the game to launch on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms. In the meantime, you can view the game trailer in the embedded video below.
