Credible Insider Reveals Why Resident Evil 9 Is Taking So Long

March 17, 2025 by Dennis Patrick

Capcom is cooking something special.

Capcom is slowly cooking up the next mainline installment to the Resident Evil franchise. However, we’ve heard nothing official about what to expect with Resident Evil 9. Fortunately, the game is still coming, as one industry insider with a credible track record mentioned it today. We’re also learning why the folks over at Capcom are taking their time to reveal this game.

If you’re a fan of Resident Evil, then there’s a chance you’re familiar with Dusk Golem. This is an industry insider known for highlighting the franchise. While they didn’t confirm what is coming, Dusk Golem notes that people will realize why the game has been MIA for a while now. It’s because we’re going to be getting something a little different.

Unfortunately, we didn’t learn much more than that from Dusk Golem. The insider stated that the game will have a big reinvention. It will be a change similar to Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 7. Both games significantly changed up to the series compared to the mainline games that came before it with their combat and camera perspectives.

(2/2) is taking so long is because it's like a big reinvention of the series, to the same level as RE4 & RE7. It's not going to play just like RE7/RE8 or the Remakes, it's trying new things & very ambitious. It will almost definitely be revealed this year, so just hold tight.

However, the insider did go on to note that Resident Evil 9 won’t play like Resident Evil 7 and the follow-up title, Resident Evil Village. Likewise, it won’t be like the remakes that have been coming out. So whatever Capcom has in the works will be something new and ambitious. Hopefully, when the game is released, it meets fans’ expectations or doesn’t change the formula too much.

At any rate, we’ll have to wait and see if we learn anything this year. While Dusk Golem is confident that we’ll finally see this game revealed within the year, it’s not official. All we can do is wait and see if Capcom is willing to play ball here and give fans a trailer drop for the game before 2025 wraps.
