Sony’s enhanced PlayStation 4 console, reportedly called Neo, will be released before October, French video game distributor Innelec Multimedia said earlier today.

However, the company later retracted its comments, issuing a statement denying any knowledge of the PlayStation Neo’s launch. The statement was released on afjv.com and translates to read “Innelec denies any official information about the launch of a PS4K Neo. It is possible that during the 2016/2017 fiscal developments exist on the current PS4 [but] for the moment we have no information about the nature of them.”

The release window was reportedly revealed in a press release issued during Innelec’s financial year 2016 earnings report, in which the company stated that the “evolution” of Sony’s system, which it called “Neo 4K” will be released during the first half of its current financial year.

The financial year began in April and ends on March 31st, 2017. This suggests that the upgraded console will be released at between now and the end of September.

A report yesterday suggested that Sony will announce the PS4 Neo at the Tokyo Game Show in October, where Nintendo will also unveil the Nintendo NX.

Innelec’s press release is not available on its website but it has appeared on stocks website Boursier and French blog otaxou.fr suggesting it may be legitimate.

Sony has not yet officially confirmed the PS4 Neo but all games will need to be “Neo-ready” from October, according to reports. Neo games will not have special features or gameplay exclusives compared to regular PS4 versions but developers will be able to take advantage of a more powerful CPU and GPU, as well as additional memory.
