It’s always unfortunate to find some games locked behind older hardware. Eventually, sometimes, we will see publishers bring these games back out in some fashion. Not all of those releases are solid experiences. So, it’s kind of neat to see fans craft mods to bring these past games out again on modern hardware. That’s especially true if they can keep the experience developers had intended for players intact. Now it looks like some past Xbox 360 games that are stuck back on the platform could finally see some new PC ports through more unofficial means.
News broke recently that had a ton of Sonic fans excited. It looks like a group of modders managed to craft a tool to recompile Xbox 360 games to PC ports. One of the games to see this unofficial release was Sonic Unleashed. The game was initially released in 2008 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, Nintendo Wii, and the PlayStation 3. However, PC players were left out of luck.
Now the wait is over, as fans were able to bring out a PC port with some nice enhancements. As IGN reported, the game port offers high framerate support and high-resolution support, and it can even run on the Steam Deck. Of course, we’re sure that Sega is not overly thrilled at this since it would mean they would be losing money if they had opted to spend resources on making a PC port.
Now, this port won’t just download and run on its own. You still need a copy of the game for Xbox 360 to obtain the necessary files to get this up and running. But that is now leaving fans wanting to see other games come out on PC that have yet to do so. For example, there are games like Lost Odyssey, an RPG that was released only on the Xbox 360, with fans’ pleas for another release going unnoticed.
