Ubisoft has shared an official message about Assassin’s Creed Shadows leaks.

“We are aware players have accessed Assassin’s Creed Shadows ahead of its official release. The development team is still working on patches to prepare the experience for launch and any footage shared online does not represent the final quality of the game.
Leaks are unfortunate and can diminish the excitement for players. We kindly as you not to spoil the experience for others. Thank you to our community for already taking steps to protect everyone from spoilers.
Stay in the shadows, avoid the spoilers, and keep an eye out on our channel for more official surprises in the coming weeks!
March 20 will be here soon!”
We reported on a gameplay preview based on those leaks, and they also noted that the leaks were clearly from an earlier version of the game. That is something of a shame, because there was some good buzz from the preview. We can be hopeful that the final product will be even better, but we must acknowledge that we are now not as sure as we were previously.
In any case, it looks like Ubisoft has managed to at least calm down the FUD surrounding Assassin’s Creed Shadows, especially with the game less than a month away from release. Given the company’s current woes outside of this particular game, it cannot be emphasized enough that Ubisoft needs Assassin’s Creed Shadows to be a success. In fact, it won’t be enough to be a mild success. It has to at least make so much money out the gate that it changes the narrative around the company’s future, and compel the board to reconsider their plans for Ubisoft’s future.
Thus far, 2025’s big releases have included Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, Kingdom Come Deliverance II, Civilization VII, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, PC ports of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and Avowed. Even bigger heavyweights are looming in the horizon, including no less than Grand Theft Auto 6, Borderlands 4, and Monster Hunter Wilds.
Suffice to say, even if Ubisoft wasn’t facing a crisis surrounding its ownership, it was going to be tough to get Assassin’s Creed Shadows to get the most success possible. But at least, we do see there’s still hype among fans for this title, and Ubisoft can only hope that they’ve done enough to meet those fans expectations when the time finally comes.
