2025 will be an interesting year for all of us, as the first month has already shown. However, one thing you can definitely expect is certain gaming properties to “cash in” on upcoming trends and big releases, and that includes games like Fortnite. After all, Epic Games are the kings of bringing in crossover characters at the “perfect times” to reflect things that are going on with certain characters, and according to a new Reddit rumor, one of the things that Epic Games will do this year is cash in on the return of the superhero blockbusters that’ll start dropping next month.
According to a longtime source, who also posted on XCancel, three characters you can expect to see in Fortnite soon is the James Gunn version of Superman that’ll debut in full later this year, and two characters from Marvel’s upcoming film. Specifically, you’ll see the Sam Wilson version of Captain America and the Red Hulk.
There’s plenty of irony to go along with this announcement, not the least of which is that Superman is already in the Epic Games title! However, this one will specifically look like David Corenswet, who is the new live-action actor behind the cape. It’ll be a subtle difference, but one that many will partake in.
As for the Marvel characters, it’s entirely unsurprising that Epic Games wants to bring in new Marvel heroes and anti-heroes to the game because they’ve done it for plenty of MCU films in the past! For example, when the only “big game” last year was a certain movie featuring Deadpool and his BFF Wolverine, guess who Epic Games brought into the title? Exactly, Deadpool and Wolverine. Oh, and let’s not forget when a certain “Mad Titan” made his presence felt in a key movie with the Avengers. Not only did Thanos get put into the game, but they made a whole mode centered around getting the Infinity Gauntlet!
One final irony here is that the movies that these characters are from are “vital pieces” to the future of both companies. For DC Comics, this is the first live-action movie in the DCU, and there are high expectations for it, especially after the very inconsistent DCEU was plagued by behind-the-scenes issues. As for the MCU, they have been sputtering since 2023, with only the Disney+ projects and Deadpool truly carrying them into this year.
Thus, it’ll be important to see how Captain America does in his fourth film, as this could affect people’s feelings about the universe going forward.
