PlayStation Classics has quite a few ports available on the PlayStation 5. However, these ports are emulated outside of the PlayStation 3. We know that the PlayStation 3 classics lineup is made through streaming, but that might not happen. It was recently discovered that the studio responsible for bringing out several ports for the PlayStation 5, Implicit Conversions, is toying with the idea of tapping into PS3 emulation.
Thanks to the folks at VGC, we’re discovering today that a roadmap was unveiled for the Implicit Conversions Syrup Engine. The developers working on the engine made a small note that they are dreaming about researching and prototyping a PlayStation 3 emulation package for the engine. That’s not to say it’s currently in active development.
Instead, this appears to be just the start of some work potentially being spent on getting this feature up and running. We could be a long way out from seeing PS3 games being emulated on the PlayStation 5. However, I’m sure there are more than a few gamers out there who wouldn’t mind seeing these titles released for the console without being tied to cloud streaming.
Of course, there are bound to be a few obstacles in the way to fully see PS3 games emulate without issue on the platform. There is quite a solid catalog of games that we would love to revisit on the PlayStation 5 platform. At the very least, it’s reassuring that we’re not alone on that front, as at least this studio is interested in also seeing some of these PlayStation 3 titles land on the latest-generation console. For now, it will be a waiting game to see if this ever comes to fruition.
