When the Nintendo 3DS first launched, it faced a relatively poor reception due to a lack of games. Thankfully, that issue has since been remedied with the release of dozens of new titles.
Having been out for almost under a year in Japan, Nintendo can now claim to have sold 5 million units in the country alone, beating the sales of the previous Nintendo DS. With that record beaten, the 3DS can now boast to be the best selling gaming system in Japan.
However, regardless of the sales, Nintendo still reported an annual operating loss due to the heavy price cut, which brought the 3DS down from $249 to $169. With any luck, the company will recoup its losses this year with the release of more exclusive games.
