Capcom: Why PC Versions Are Released Late

February 20, 2012 by Ian Miles Cheong

Capcom explains why all the PC versions of their games are released later than the console versions.

A question was asked on Capcom's official "Ask Capcom" feature, which asked why Capcom has a habit of releasing the PC versions of their titles much later than their console counterparts.

The reason provided was simple: the PC ports are only developed after the console versions are out.

"Quite often PC development starts when the console development finishes or nearly finishes," said Capcom's Christian Svensson.

"Unless we start sitting on the console code and not releasing it until the PC development is complete (which we can't do from a business planning perspective), there's going to continue to be some small gaps, unfortunately.

"We try to keep the gap as small as possible and, at times, we have been able to make them simultaneous: Dark Void, Bionic Commando, BCR, MotoGP, Dead Rising 2, Dead Rising 2:OTR."
