New Ace Attorney Tease Gives Hope For A New Game

September 27, 2024 by Todd Black

Don’t Fake Us Out, Capcom!

While the gaming industry is very much one that depends on certain series doing big numbers, that doesn’t mean that all of them have to have that level of success. There are plenty of franchises out there that do “decent numbers” and are allowed to endure because they don’t take the longest to make nor the most to create. For Capcom, the franchise that encapsulates that is the Ace Attorney series. The visual novel games mixed with lawyer and detective elements have been a fan-favorite set of games to play for years now. Even with that, the games haven’t had a true new entry in many years.

That doesn’t mean Capcom hasn’t been doing anything with the franchise since its last entry, as it’s been making a concentrated effort to remaster every single past game in the line, including ones that never got localized outside of Japan. Earlier in September, the two titles featuring Miles Edgeworth were upgraded and released, leaving none of the “mainline” games left to improve. Thus, fans are hoping that something new is in the works. At the Tokyo Game Show, Capcom did tease something was coming, and even the Ace Attorney Twitter handle made a tease about the new “product” that is coming:

I wonder if a certain defense attorney will be there… https://t.co/cDONyBPHL2

As many wisely note, while a video game is a “product,” it doesn’t necessarily mean a new game. Capcom is being intentionally vague with this announcement, and that’s driving some fans nuts. The reveal is indeed taking place at the Tokyo Game Show, which is going on right now, but even that doesn’t mean anything in particular. It just means that something else that is related to the franchise could be happening, which has happened before via crossovers, anime creations, etc.

The reason that many want another game in the franchise is that there are some “loose ends” that need to be tied up, and the sixth entry that came out back in 2016 teased the biggest of those loose ends via the “reunion” of Apollo and Trucy with their mother. Since then, Capcom hasn’t pulled the trigger on the seventh title, and fans want it to happen.

The reveal is set to take place on Sunday, which will make the wait for the announcement all the more terrible. If it were to happen, one would likely imagine that the game’s release would happen soon, not unlike how the last collection was revealed not too long before its release.
