In a new interview with IGN, Dragon Age: The Veilguard director Corinne Busche is teasing the RPG’s numerous romances, stressing that there will be something for every kind of player. Each of the seven romanceable companions will bring something unique to the table, and relationships are a big part of the experience.
“We really did want to keep them relatable, more grounded. Some of them are quite sensual. Some of them are more physical, some are more romantic, some are more spicy,” said Busche. “You may or may not wake up in a coffin.”
Although Dragon Age: The Veilguard will heavily feature romance, players won’t need to woo a party member to unlock their best moves. The upcoming title will reportedly feature ‘Relationship Levels,’ with which the player can unlock new skills and abilities for their companions by deepening their relationship with them. These relationships don’t necessarily need to be romantic.
Additionally, while some relationships in the game will be on the spicier side, others will be more awkward and bumbling, as “each romance has a very different flavor,” according to Busche.
“You learn who these characters are in how their romances unfold,” she said.
“You’re going to develop trust, understanding. That doesn’t mean you’re always going to agree…I like to think of relationships not necessarily as how much they like you, but how well you know them.
Every family has their squabbles, but this is really about developing your understanding of each member of the Veilguard, and in turn, that’s going to allow them to work better as a team.”
Dragon Age: The Veilguard will be released on PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S on October 31, 2024, almost a decade after the release of the last game in the series, Dragon Age: Inquisition.
