Stardew Valley 1.6 Coming to Console and Mobile This Fall

September 23, 2024 by Carley Garcia

The wait is (almost) finally over.

Last month, Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone, the developer behind the legendary farming sim Stardew Valley, explained that he hasn’t been able to work on his next project because of the highly-anticipated console and mobile ports of the game’s 1.6 update.

The update was initially thought to be a quick project, but it turned into what seemed like a nightmare to Barone. Thankfully, there is now a light at the end of the tunnel. The Stardew Valley 1.6 update will be released on consoles and mobile devices on November 4, 2024.

The free update for Stardew Valley, released on PC in March, changed the game considerably, adding new items, a new farm layout, a Mastery System, multiple pets, additional festivals and events, and heaps of fixes and adjustments. ConcernedApe explained his reasoning for releasing the update on PC first in a recent X post.

“I’ve always released on PC first, because it’s sort of a “beta test” to make sure there are no critical (e.g. save-destroying) bugs, which are a much bigger deal on consoles because they can’t be patched out as quickly,” the developer explained. “However, I never intended for the delay to be this long.”

Barone first announced his next game Haunted Chocolatier in October 2021. No release window has been set, though a number of screenshots have made their way online over the past few years. Barone has noted that he is “not trying to make the next big indie hit” with his next game.
