PS5 Pro Version of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Playable at TGS

September 20, 2024 by Carley Garcia

Let’s see if those graphical tweaks can really sell it in real time.

A staggering 731 exhibitors and 3,190 booths are confirmed to appear at this year’s Tokyo Game Show. In July, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that it would fully return to this year’s event, breaking five years of PlayStation silence at the show, and it looks like the company is bringing out the big guns. Those lucky enough to attend this year’s TGS 2024 will be able to try out Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on the PlayStation 5 Pro.

The updated console will be heavily showcased during this year’s event, and many are pleased to see that a hands-on look at the Pro will be available. While comparison images have appeared on social media, players will finally be able to see if the pricey system is truly worth the blow to their bank accounts.

In a new X post from PlayStation Japan, Sony explains that “the PlayStation 5 Pro will be unveiled to the public for the first time” at this year’s booth. Final Fantasy director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth would be playable soon after.

The PlayStation 5 Pro will be released on November 7 and will cost a staggering $699.99, something which immediately seemed to drive away prospective buyers. Similar in style to the ‘slim’ PlayStation 5, the console will not include a disc drive, though one can be purchased separately.

Despite fan frustration over the console’s price, the Pro will introduce some impressive features, including support for 60Hz and 120Hz displays, advanced ray tracing, and 4K output. Compatible games can be played at up to 120 FPS via AI upscaling.

This week, Sony revealed a 30th Anniversary Edition PS5 Pro, featuring a classic look and instantly appealing to previous naysayers.
