Disney Games Japan Teases A New Project Called Disney Pixel Adventure

July 3, 2024 by Ryan Parreno

This might turn out to be a mobile game, or it might be something we console gamers could be excited about.

Disney Games Japan has made an intriguing little tease for something related to one of Disney’s most popular characters.

Right now, that character might be Sadness from Inside Out, but we’re actually referring to the company’s longstanding mascot, Mickey Mouse. A generation of gamers know Mickey the best for appearing in Kingdom Hearts, but he’s been in other games before and after.

Mickey’s gameography includes the Warren Spector directed Epic Mickey, his run of Sega Disney games starting with Castle of Illusion, his run of Disney Sports games made by Konami, crossover licensees like Magical Tetris Challenge.

Most recently, Mickey has appeared in Disney Speedstorm, Disney Dreamlight Valley, and Illusion Island. And, we can’t forget that Mickey is actually in the public domain, opening up his use outside of Disney products. So far we have seen the announcement of the shooter Mouse, but he’s already appeared in the top down shooter Inverse Ninjas vs the Public Domain, and the Cuphead copycat Rubber Hose Rampage.

Disney Games Japan posted a picture of Mickey Mouse on Twitter, wearing a red tunic with a belt holding it, a cape, and those familiar yellow boots. He’s also holding a sword that’s at least as big as he is.

Audrey Lamsam, CEO of Japan based anime and video game merchandise store Aitai Kuji, made this tweet that shared even more information on what this is:

“The Disney Pixel Adventure game trailer is INSANE!!

Look at all the references!!?!? Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario, Donkey Kong, + more!?”

Her tweet shared a trailer for Disney Pixel Adventure, which she claims she got from Disney Games Japan’s Instagram. The trailer shows Mickey, with the red costume and now wearing a crown fitting a king, running off to rescue Minnie from Pete, who now seems to have taken on the role of a wizard.

Joining Mickey are armor clad Goofy and Donald, and also Chip and Dale, who seem to be peasants who have also joined the adventure. As Audrey pointed out, the trailer shows the characters appearing like they are giving tributes or making references of other video games. We see Mickey do both turn based and action based gameplay in small clips of gameplay.

Now, as exciting as this all looks, we do have to bring up two things. One, this could be a game that’s only intended for Japan, and two, it may turn out to be a mobile game. And yes, it’s possible that this won’t be a real game at all, but just a small tribute video that happens to have been made by Disney.

But, all things considered, there is a real possibility this is a game intended for everyone. If it does turn out to be an actual game, that’s coming to consoles and possibly PC, we will sure to spread the word. This could be a fun little new game with Mickey and his friends.
