Hi-Fi Rush PlayStation 5 Download Size Revealed

March 18, 2024 by Ryan Parreno

Microsoft has high hopes that this game can find success as a multiplatform release.

Hi-Fi Rush is set to release on the PlayStation 5 soon, and we now know how big it will be on the platform.

PlayStation Game Size shared this information on Twitter:

“Hi-Fi RUSH

Download Size: 15.525 GB

Version: 1.001.000

Standard Edition: $ 29.99

Pre-Load : Now Available!

Release : March 19 – GMT Midnight

#HiFiRush #PS5”

Hi-Fi Rush is 16 GB on Xbox and PC, so Tango Softworks doesn’t seem to be doing any compression for this title. While it isn’t necessarily the smallest game, Hi-Fi Rush is at least a reasonable size for what it is and not too much to fill out your PlayStation 5’s hard drive.

Hi-Fi Rush originally released on Windows and Xbox Series X/S on January 25, 2023. Its surprise shadow drop stunt is unlikely to be replicated, but it did demonstrate to gamers that Microsoft could still keep some literal surprises.

It was certainly a success for Tango Softworks, who were able to gamely demonstrate that they could make games people assumed were outside of their wheelhouse. This title also brought real innovation to the action game and rhythm game genre, that certainly feels like someone should have come up with it a few console generations ago.

The big point of interest with this title is that it is one of four games that Microsoft revealed they would be releasing on other platforms. Microsoft was also clear that these smaller scale games with new IP were well received, but could do more, in Microsoft’s estimation, if they were allowed to find their audience in other platforms.

We already know that Microsoft had described this as some of the criteria they choose in deciding to make a game multiplatform, in an unusual way. Microsoft shared documents to the FTC, as well as the UK CMA and the European Commission, in their investigation of the company’s Activision deal. Not that those documents and statements were in doubt, but now we see Microsoft applying this criteria for the public to see.

And if you think about it, the same kind of thinking was likely cultivated when Microsoft decided to make Minecraft one of those games, like Fortnite, that was simply available everywhere.

So maybe Hi-Fi Rush finds a huge audience on PlayStation 5, that Microsoft could cultivate with similar multiplatform Hi-Fi Rush sequels in the future. As rumored, maybe Microsoft is hoping to do the same thing with Hi-Fi Rush on the Switch 2. Or maybe Microsoft hopes to get these games to buy an Xbox, or at least subscribe to Game Pass, because of this release. Whichever the case may be, hopes are high for Xbox that Hi-Fi Rush becomes a real hit, not only on Xbox.
