Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox Retail Version Confirmed To Feature 4 Discs

March 4, 2024 by Dennis Patrick

This is one big RPG to put into discs.

Baldur’s Gate 3 was a massive hit when it launched into the marketplace. It easily became one of the most talked about games when it was released and certainly gave PlayStation 5 owners an RPG to enjoy at launch. This was when Xbox Series X/S console players were about to dive into Bethesda’s major RPG launch, Starfield. However, Baldur’s Gate 3 has since been released on the Xbox Series X/S, and now Larian Studios is preparing for a physical launch.

When Baldur’s Gate 3 was launched, it was only digital. So, if you wanted to play this game now, no matter what platform you chose, it would only be through the digital marketplace. Fortunately, a physical release was announced, and we’re getting access to it soon. But for Xbox players, in particular, you will receive several discs.

Last week, the director of publishing for Larian Studios commented that Xbox Series X players could be looking at four discs. At the time, the consensus wasn’t completely clear on that front. There was some hope that the developers could bring to just three discs, but that’s simply not going to be possible, according to the latest post from the director of publishing on X today.

The Xbox retail version of Baldur’s Gate 3 will indeed have 4 discs, since we’re 500mb over the limit for 3. Only option would have been to cut some content out but that didn’t make sense, so confirming 4. Updating here: https://t.co/xUoKLALyqr https://t.co/A2QQ3lI7y9

In response to their previous comments, it’s now been confirmed that Baldur’s Gate 3 will have four discs when it ships, as it hit over 500MB to get it on just three discs. The only way they could get it on three discs would require the developers to make some cuts, and that’s just not an option they would like to go through for their game.

So, while dealing with four discs, at least you’re not getting shorted any content from the game. Currently, preorders are still going on to acquire a physical edition with Baldur’s Gate 3 Deluxe Edition. Shipping will be done in two waves, with the first wave of units likely coming out in the first quarter of this year.

Those units for the first wave have already been sold. So what’s being offered now is that players can preorder a copy of the game for their second wave, shipping in the second quarter of this year.

As mentioned, Baldur’s Gate 3 has already been released digitally. If you haven’t picked this game up and would like a little more insight into our thoughts, then check our Before You Buy video coverage below.
