Grand Theft Auto VI Fans Hope This RDR 2 Feature Returns

January 16, 2024 by Dennis Patrick

You didn’t see anything.

Rockstar Games is always trying to push the limits. Much like other studios, there are a series of features and new systems made for their games. But then we can also see some of these systems breach over to other IPs and even become improved upon. With fans eagerly anticipating the release of Grand Theft Auto VI, there’s a ton of feedback already just from the first trailer. We don’t have any official gameplay footage for the game right now. That’s outside of the series of leaked clips that emerged online well before Rockstar Games was ready to unveil anything regarding Grand Theft Auto VI.

But even though there is no official gameplay footage out right now, fans are looking back to the most recent Rockstar Games release, Red Dead Redemption 2. Thanks to a report from Charlie Intel, we’re finding out that fans are discussing one feature in particular that they would like to see return in Grand Theft Auto VI. Specifically, the feature that was being discussed is the witness system. This was used throughout Red Dead Redemption 2, and fans favor seeing a new revamped system added in.

Should The Witness System Return?

If you don’t recall, the witness system in Red Dead Redemption 2 had NPCs that would alert the nearby authorities. Suppose you get into no good in Red Dead Redemption 2 as Arthur Morgan. Well, if an NPC spots you, then they can run off to alert the law. But you have the ability to catch up and attempt to persuade the character to carry on. Whether you had to threaten, beat, or completely eliminate the individual was up to you.

Of course, there are some other areas regarding law enforcement that fans wouldn’t mind seeing tweaked. In past games, when players committed a crime, the law knew exactly where to pinpoint them. Some fans hope that there is a bit more of a buffer time to locate the character before trying to take them down. Unfortunately, it will be a good while before we get an idea of what systems were brought in from Red Dead Redemption 2 and what new systems were created just for this game. Currently, Grand Theft Auto VI is not set to launch until next year, 2025. In the meantime, you can check out the initial announcement trailer for the game in the video we have embedded below.
