MSI Steam Deck Competitor Has Leaked Online

January 5, 2024 by Dennis Patrick

Introducing the Claw.

We’re certainly seeing more companies try to take a slice of the mobile handheld gaming market as of late. When Valve found success with its own portable PC gaming handheld, it wasn’t long before competitors entered the market. We’ve got a few options available right now to pick through. But it was yesterday that MSI teased that they would throw their name into the mix. However, today, it looks like their portable gaming handheld was leaked online.

While we should wait for the MSI device to get its official reveal, you can look at some of the details circulating online right now. Thanks to a report from Videocardz.com, we discovered that this gaming handheld device will be called the Claw. There are also some small supposed details for the components running the device. However, please don’t get too excited as we don’t have too much information right now, and what we do have could change by the time we get the official reveal. At any rate, it looks like running this device will be an Intel Meteor Lake processor.

Specifically, Videocardz.com notes that we should see an Intel Core 7 Ultra 155H. This will set the device apart from some of the other competitors in the marketplace. Other devices like the Valve Steam Deck and ASUS ROG Ally use an AMD architecture. Other details that supposedly will come to fruition with the MSI Claw is that we’re getting 32 GB of memory. Unfortunately, some of the additional details that you might be curious about are still kept under wraps.

There are images of the MSI Claw online as well, which show a render with RGB backlights and analog sticks in a similar placement to the ASUS ROG Ally. However, we don’t have any details quite yet about the screen size, the type of display inside the unit, battery life, and, of course, the retail price point. Hopefully, those details will emerge online soon as we have CES 2024 coming up. That tradeshow might feature this device from MSI to help showcase some finer details and answer your questions.

At any rate, we’ll have to see just how this device holds up to some of the already-established handhelds in the marketplace. Meanwhile, one of the juggernauts, Valve, has been working on the next iteration of the Steam Deck. But it might be a good while before we see the Steam Deck 2 land in the marketplace.
