Rumor: Capcom Really Has A Completely Unannounced AAA To Be Revealed Before 2023 Ends

November 27, 2023 by Ryan Parreno

Capcom may be planning to surprise us with a new idea yet again.

There is a new rumor going around about Capcom’s next big 2023 game.

As reported by PSU, this rumor completely rules out the possibility that Capcom’s last big 2023 game is Dragon’s Dogma 2. The official word we got from Capcom did not say it was an unknown or unannounced title. Capcom only intimated it was something at the scale of a AAA, and that it would be coming up before the year ends.

But Dusk Golem, the source for this rumor, says otherwise. To quote Dusk here:

“But anyways, there is a big Capcom game that’s being announced in late 2023 and releasing in 2024. But it is not a Resident Evil game.

I will say that 4chan rumour is bollacks [sic], its someone making shit up. But there is no RE remakes coming out in 2024, I promise that.”

To clarify, the 4chan rumor that Dusk Golem is alluding to was a rumor that Resident Evil: Code Veronica Remake was the big game remaining for 2023. For what it’s worth, we do hope that Capcom is working on a remake of Resident Evil: Code Veronica. It would certainly be a better direction for Capcom to go to than going ahead with remaking Resident Evil 5.

Capcom did already release Exoprimal earlier this year. While that game isn’t likely to be considered another Capcom classic anytime soon, you can see Capcom putting the effort to get it there. And this was the point for making the game for Capcom; they didn’t want to rest on their laurels.

They are actively pushing themselves to come up with completely new games that fans will enjoy. If they succeed they come up with franchises like Monster Hunter, if they fail they take what they learn to make other games that do it better.

So, yes, if you are still questioning why Capcom didn’t just make a Dino Crisis game or give this game the Dino Crisis branding, this would be the reason. And it seems that this was the same line of thinking Capcom has with making another completely new game.

So we may soon be looking at an entirely new IP from Capcom again, one that we don’t know what to expect exactly what it is. Will it be a real time strategy game? Will it be one of those roguelike deck games? Is it Darkstalkers? (Sorry, fans, it won’t be.) When you look at where we are in the calendar, it looks like we will find out soon enough.
