Western Version of Nioh May Have Exclusive Dismemberment

April 13, 2016 by Mitchell Saltzman

Did the Team Ninja YouTube account just confirm that the western version of Nioh will have added violence?

Sometimes video games news breaks in the most unusual of places.

While responding to a comment on an announcement trailer for Nioh‘s alpha demo, a representative for Team Ninja implied that dismemberment will be an exclusive feature for the western version of the game.

Dismemberment

Even though it likely wouldn’t have a huge impact on the actual gameplay, it would be a very interesting decision if true. Does Team Ninja think that the added violence would be more appealing to the western audience compared to its eastern audience? Or perhaps it could have something to do with the Computer Entertaining Rating Organization (CERO) guidelines for violent expression, which has upper limits of the amount of violence it will allow in video games released in the east.

Whatever the case, this isn’t an official announcement either way. We’ve reached out to Team Ninja for clarification and will update this story accordingly.

Nioh is currently set to be released in the US sometime in 2016. The alpha demo drops on April 26.
