Tribes: Ascend Gets Class Customization, New UI

February 2, 2012 by Ian Miles Cheong

A new update for Tribes: Ascend adds class customization, a new UI, and a host of new classes.

Tribes: Ascend is a resurrection of Dynamix’s Tribes franchise, and aims to bring back the gameplay of the first two games with modern visuals.

Hi-Rez Studios, the developers of Tribes: Ascend, released a batch of new screenshots today previewing a number of enhancements slated to appear in the game in the coming weeks.

The game, which is currently in beta, has been receiving a steady flow of updates since November. The new patch is said to deliver the most significant update to date with the addition of class customization, new UI, and more free classes for non-paying players.

“Our next update will include additional class customization and a much more polished user interface that really showcases the sci-fi, high resolution graphics of Tribes: Ascend,” said Todd Harris of Hi-Rez Studios. “We will be collapsing the total number of playable classes from 12 to 9, but adding the ability for players to unlock new weapons for each class and further customize their loadout. Three of the nine classes will be available right away so a new player will have access to a Light, Medium, and Heavy class in his or her first match”

“We believe this system preserves class-based combat but offers additional flexibility for players to customize classes around individual playstyle. It continues to provide a balanced and level playing field for all players – free and VIP.”

Full patch notes for the PC-exclusive game can be read here.
