Final Fantasy XIV/XVI Crossover Could Be Just The Beginning

October 23, 2023 by Todd Black

What more do you want them to do?

So, if you haven’t heard, some big things are going down in Final Fantasy XIV. Not only is a new expansion coming that will help start a new story and give players even more things to do, but a new collaboration will make Square Enix fans happy. Specifically, a collaboration with the most recent entry from the beloved RPG series will happen as Clive Rosfield arrives in the game and joins the Warriors of Light! Even more specifically, there’s a questline that is called “The Path Infernal,” and it’s there that you can meet Clive and battle monsters that appear to be like Eikons. You can watch the reveal trailer for that below.

However, while that is an awesome thing, and those who attended the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival in London were undoubtedly over the moon, there are questions about what comes next. Yes, we do know that the player characters will get to dress as some of their favorite characters, like Clive, from the 16th entry, but is that all there is?

At the event, Tech Raptor got to ask questions of director and producer Naoki Yoshida about future collaborations, and here is what he said:

“We saw the Torgals and they’re very cute, and Clive’s outfit also looks great, but will we have any chance to get outfits portraying other characters like Jill, Benedikta, or Cid as well? As you may know, glamours are the true endgame.

In terms of whether you can expect gear from characters other than Clive, well, we’re still working on the PC version, and I think there are quite a few people who maybe just bought a PS5 and haven’t played XVI yet, so for any elements that are further in the game or such, we don’t have plans on introducing it yet.

For now, I hope you can make do with Torgal and Clive’s outfit, and if I manage to get some time to talk to the Final Fantasy XVI producer again, then I can pitch the idea of doing a bit more of a grander crossover.”

What “grander” could mean is anyone’s guess, which might be part of the point. After all, it is an MMORPG, and thus, there is room to do some rather grand things. Plus, with the previous mainline story wrapped up, that means there are opportunities to do new things that wouldn’t have made sense before. Only time will tell what they decide.
