New Kid Icarus: Uprising Trailer Shows Off Fiend Cauldron Mode

February 1, 2012 by Molly Carroll

Fiend Cauldron mode rewards players for upping the game’s difficulty.

The long-awaited 3DS game, Kid Icarus: Uprising, teased fans of the series today with a brand new trailer. It’s been nearly 21 years since the last Kid Icarus game was released, and the IP appears to be getting a pretty significant update.

The trailer shows off Uprising’s Fiend Cauldron feature. As I understand it, by collecting hearts from enemies and betting them into the cauldron, players can up the “intensity” of the levels—more enemies, more hearts and greater rewards. Check out the trailer below!

For a series that's been criticized for its difficulty in the past, I can see the Fiend Cauldron making the game more accessible to players looking for a more casual playthrough while still satisfying players who enjoy a good challenge– that is, assuming the balance of the intensity levels isn't horrifically askew. I guess we'll find out! Kid Icarus: Uprising comes out March 23, 2012 in the US and Europe. Check out the trailer below.
