Dev Diary Shows Off Crusader Kings Developer’s First Foray into Sci-Fi

April 8, 2016 by Mitchell Saltzman

A new dev diary for Stellaris sheds some developer insight on Paradox Interactive’s first sci-fi strategy game

Paradox Interactive has created some of the deepest and grandest strategy games of all time, but they have always been rooted in history. With Stellaris, they aim to shoot for the stars.

A new dev diary from the Crusader Kings and Europa Universalis developers sheds some light on their design process and why they decided to split from the past and shift to sci-fi. While there’s not much in the way of new info coming from the diary, it offers an interesting look into the thoughts of the developers themselves regarding what Stellaris means to Paradox as a company.

“Working on Steallris is a bit different because there’s a lot of areas we as Paradox have never touched upon earlier,” said Joakim Andreasson, game designer at Paradox Interactive. “Players who will most enjoy Stellaris is probably a mix between traditional PDX players who like Europa Universalis and Crusader Kings, and the crowd who likes the more fantastic elements of science fiction. Exploring space and what’s out there.”

Stellaris is set to release on May 9, on PC, Mac and Linux.
