Hogwarts Legacy Developers Are Developing Their Next Game

July 28, 2023 by Dennis Patrick

Are we getting a sequel?

Hogwarts Legacy fans are eager to dive into another video game from this franchise. While we don’t know what the future may hold for this IP, we do know that the developers behind the game have started their next project. This information comes from a new job listing which indicates that the studio is working on another AAA title with some resources still being set on ensuring Hogwarts Legacy for the Nintendo Switch makes its way out into the marketplace.

Unfortunately, as you can expect, the fine details about what this project is about remain a secret. Thanks to Gamerant, we’re finding out that there are two job listings available. During the job posting, it looks like the focus is creating what’s next for the studio. But it does also indicate they are looking for someone with experience using Unreal Engine 4. That is the same engine used for Hogwarts Legacy. So it could be that the developers will stick with this older engine compared to the more recent Unreal Engine 5 due to reusing some of the previous Hogwarts Legacy assets.

That’s, of course, just speculation going on right now online. We honestly couldn’t tell you what the studio is working on, but I’m sure that this studio is keen on sticking with the Harry Potter franchise for a good while longer. Hogwarts Legacy was a huge hit for Avalanche Software despite some of the controversies that the game was pinned with due to the IP associating with J. K. Rowling. At any rate, with the game being such a massive success in the marketplace, we imagine that the feedback developers received from fans playing through Hogwarts Legacy would lend them some great ideas on what to further improve or expand on with a follow-up title.

Again, Hogwarts Legacy was released back in February of this year, and since then, it’s become available for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One platforms. Meanwhile, those on Nintendo Switch can expect the game to launch on the platform this November 14, 2023. While set in the same universe as Harry Potter, Hogwarts Legacy actually takes place years before the events of the novels.

In Hogwarts Legacy, players take the role of a late arrival student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. However, upon arriving at the school, our protagonist is met with a new mystery that pins them to ancient magic. If you haven’t given this action RPG a chance yet, then you can check out our Before You Buy video coverage of the title below.
