Konami surprised fans by bringing back a beloved horror franchise last year. Silent Hill fans were waiting for what felt like an eternity for a new game installment, and fortunately, Konami will finally deliver. Now whether they deliver and meet fan expectations is a whole other thing. However, the company is bringing the franchise back in the form of a few different video game projects. One of those game projects that was highly rumored about didn’t actually see a teaser during the initial Silent Hill Transmission stream. But it looks like the synopsis for Silent Hill: The Short Message was leaked online.
Plenty of rumors and supposed leaks are popping up online regarding Silent Hill: The Short Message. We haven’t seen this game yet, but a rating board addition in Taiwan had initially sparked some hope that a title was coming. That project was since removed from the board, so it’s anyone’s guess as to whether it is still in the works. It could be that the game was further delayed if not already canceled. But while we wait to see if any new details do emerge officially, one industry insider is finally opening up on what they know about the project.
Thanks to some screenshots shared on Resetera, we’re discovering that Dusk Golem has spread some details on the game’s synopsis. If you’re unfamiliar with Dusk Golem, this individual online had previously shared details regarding Silent Hill making a return before Konami officially revealed the various projects. The industry insider took to Discord and shared a few of the details they had learned back in 2020. So, as a result, the details might be different now if the game project is still in the works. Additionally, Dusk Golem states that this is early storyline information and nothing that would be deemed much of a spoiler.
According to the series of posts by Dusk Golem, it looks like the game will put players into the role of a young student named Anita Planet. We learned that Anita has trouble making friends, and her only friend in the school is another girl named Maya. However, their relationship begins to strain as Anita becomes more troubled such as searching for shocking content online. Apparently, in the story, Maya ends up committing suicide, and it forces Anita to start venturing deeper into the darkness as she embarks on what drove Maya over the edge and who is still accessing Maya’s social media accounts.
Again, this is not officially revealed yet, and this could be all false information. Since this only comes from an industry insider, we have to label it as nothing more than a rumor right now. Likewise, we’ll have to actually wait and see if there are plans to bring this game out into the marketplace. Instead, we know there are other projects in the works for the franchise, like Bloober Team’s remake of Silent Hill 2.
