Take To The Skies As Early Access MMO Launches Alpha

March 30, 2016 by Stephen Daly

Expect regular updates as this MMORPG goes through alpha and beta testing.

The Skies will launch a closed alpha via Steam Early Access on April 1st ahead of an open beta on April 16th and has revealed a new trailer, which you can see above, to mark the game’s launch.

The Skies is a free-to-play first person MMORPG set in an open-world post-apocalyptic environment in which players are offered the freedom to explore and choose their own path along a non-linear quest system complete with customizable roleplay system. Not only will your choices affect your own progression through the game but other players’ experiences will also be shaped by the decisions you make.

Based on The Skies graphic novel from Anton Paramonov, who’s also lead designer on the game, noted in a press release that player feedback has been very positive so far and the team is eager to see how the game performs once the alpha launches.

All of the core gameplay features will be available for the alpha, with developer Eforb stating that regular updates will be rolled out in the lead up to the beta and eventual game launch later this year.

Between April 16th and May 15th, players will have the opportunity to buy a $15 Lifetime Premium Package. Users who opt for this will never need to buy a subscription which will cost $10 per month after the launch period.

As for the game itself, players will need to explore a damaged world, conquering or liberating territory in the hopes of saving humanity by discovering a legendary city known as The Skies.

These are some of the main features of The Skies:

  • Unique role system comprising 6 main characteristics as well as 18 active skills, enhanced by the passive skills developed through crafting and production.
  • Non-linear dialogues and quests dependent on the role system parameters, such as reputation, intelligence or trading skills scores.
  • A complicated multi-level economic system entirely reliant on players’ actions. Players can choose between gathering and producing materials themselves, working in factories or hiring and managing other people.
  • A rich, open post-apocalyptic world in which players have to find their own path.
  • Engaging storyline based on the graphic novel written by The Skies’ game designer.
  • PvP, TvT, Clan Wars in which all players can gain power over territories and part of their profits.

The Skies is coming to PC and consoles later this year. You can check out some screenshots in the gallery below.
