Rumor: Lords Of The Fallen Reboot Is Coming This October

May 12, 2023 by Ryan Parreno

We should acknowledge that as European studios, CI Games and Hexworks have more credibility making games of Western fantasy.

A new rumor has emerged that Lords of the Fallen will be released this coming October 2023.

As reported by Insider Gaming, ALumia_Italia has revealed that Lords of the Fallen is scheduled to release on October 13, 2023.

If true, it will be quite the culmination for a journey that started in 2014. The original Lords of the Fallen released three months before they announced the next game, at the time simply slated to be the sequel, and called Lords of the Fallen 2.

At the time the game was planned to simply release in 2017. As you can imagine, published CI Games faced setbacks in production, though they haven’t really made the fully story public.

What is publicly known is that they added Defiant Studios to the project in 2018, only to remove them from it in 2020. CI Games then revealed they had formed a new subsidiary studio called Hexworks to work on the game.

As we had covered last December, Lords of the Fallen was given the spotlight in last year’s The Game Awards. CI Games unveiled it as a complete reboot, with some times to the original game, and using the same general idea. This new Lords of the Fallen is being built on Unreal 5 and promises a completely different game design, not just in combat, but in traveling between the interconnected worlds of the living and the dead.

While it’s easy to see and make the comparisons to From Software and their games, we should probably remember something that makes CI Games very different. That being that while From Software’s games are often set in vaguely European settings, CI Games is actually a European game studio, based in Poland.

Subsequently, their subsidiary Hexworks have headquarters in Barcelona and Bucharest. While CI Games was still a small and mid-budget game studio when they made the original Lords of the Fallen, the company surprisingly went through quite the growth spurt through 2020 and 2021, AKA the very peak years of the pandemic.

While CI Games still hasn’t quite leveled up like From Software to being one of the most elite of game studios, we should acknowledge they likely have more credibility in creating authentic Western based fantasy fiction. Deck13’s original Lords of the Fallen saw enough success to make this reboot possible. CI Games clearly sees an opportunity to make something even bigger and more ambitious thanks to the popularity of the maso-core genre.

Lords of the Fallen has been announced for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Sderies X|S, and Windows via Steam and Epic Games Store.
