Spiritual successor to Contra: Hard Corps announced for PSN and XBLA

Konami has announced that the spiritual successor to the classic Contra: Hard Corps, Hard Corps: Uprising will be coming to the PSN and XBLA late 2010. Konami has said that “the game will be a homage to legacy Konami run-and-gun platformers” it was known for in the early nineties.

The game will be developed by Arc System, the team behind Blazblue and Guilty Gears series, who have decided to give the game an anime-styled look. Unlike the original game which had four characters to choose from, Hard Cops: Uprising will have only two characters to choose from although additional downloadable characters are planned. Other features include online/offline cooperative play and a Rising Mode for the faint hearted which allows players to take three bullets instead of the traditional fatal-single-bullet gameplay Contra is known for.
