Disney ‘Evaluating’ PC Strategy For Disney Infinity, No New Content For 2016

March 15, 2016 by Ryan Parreno

Disney seems to be thinking twice about Disney Infinity on PC. They have just confirmed none of the updates planned this year will be brought to PC.

Disney seems to be thinking twice about Disney Infinity on PC. They have just confirmed none of the updates planned this year will be brought to PC.

The toys-to-life franchise is available on a wide range of platforms. Not only are they available on all active home consoles, but also on Windows, 3DS, iPad, and recently, Apple TV. However, Disney has faced poor reception for Disney Infinity on Steam. The Steam pages for Disney Infinity 2.0: Marvel Super Heroes and Disney Infinity 3.0 Play Without Limits have received mostly poor reception. The Disney Infinity 3.0 reviews are particularly negative, with many reviewers complaining its free-to-play label is misleading since it still requires players buy a figure or DLC to play. Interestingly, the Windows Store pages for Disney Infinity here, here, and here are far more positive. It is worth noting that the Windows Store encompasses downloads for desktops, laptops, tablets, and even phones.

This week we have an official confirmation that the new content planned for Disney Infinity 3.0 will not be coming to PC. Word comes both from the official Disney Infinity Twitter account, and from John Vignocchi, executive producer at Disney Interactive Studios.

@halcyonforever At this time, the new content will only be available on console. We will certainly make the community aware if that changes!

While there won’t be a Disney Infinity 4.0 this year, Disney actually plans to release more content than in any single release before it. They have promised one playset each for Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars. They already revealed the Marvel playset, a co-operative brawler called Marvel Battlegrounds. There are, of course, new characters released and planned for release, including Nick and Judy from Zootopia and Baloo from The Jungle Book. As it stands, the last major Disney Infinity 3.0  DLC/expansion received was the Disney Infinity 3.0 Star Wars The Force Awakens Play Set.
