Halo Infinite’s Forge Mode Plans Have Not Changed At 343 Industries

February 6, 2023 by Dennis Patrick

Fans can still expect the development to proceed with new Forge mode updates.

Halo is a massive franchise and one of the staple IPs for Microsoft. But despite its enormous influence in acquiring players for the Xbox brand, Halo Infinite doesn’t seem to be keeping players around. That has left some fans wondering if the future of Halo Infinite is already nearing its end. The future looked bleak with recent layoffs at 343 Industries, and a concerning survey sent out by Microsoft regarding Halo Infinite. Still, there are statements that 343 Industries will continue with the franchise, and now we know that plans for the Forge mode are still intact.

With Halo Infinite, there are plenty of players still enjoying the game. However, the total number of players that are actively playing it might have shifted downward. If you don’t recall, Microsoft recently sent out a survey to players asking if they were done with Halo Infinite. Follow-up questions were generally asked about what content they would like to see in Halo Infinite. Those questions, in general, likely didn’t convey much confidence that the installment would be sticking around for the long haul. Additionally, there was another report surfacing online that the development team at 343 Industries was looking to shift their focus toward developing a Halo title through Unreal Engine.

While Halo Infinite was meant to be around for a long time, we still haven’t seen any new storyline campaign content get unveiled. Fortunately, one of the ways that the developers have managed to keep fans entertained is the Forge mode. This is a creative mode that allows players to make new maps and even game modes. It’s proven to be a popular feature for the franchise, and fortunately, this was implemented in Halo Infinite. But with the latest concerns that Halo Infinite might be on its way out, one fan reached out to 343 Industries, Michael Shorr, on Twitter.

The high level plan for Forge is still the same — we'll be adding new features and quality of life improvements, fixing bugs, and responding to player feedback. We've already talked about some of the upcoming Forge features (AI spawning, Minigame mode, and editing dev maps).

If you don’t know who Michael Shorr is, this is the Forge lead designer at 343 Industries. According to Michael Shorr, the plans for Forge mode are still the same. There are plans to add new features, fix bugs, respond to player feedback, and make Forge mode still enticing for players to try out. So at the very least, the popular game feature for Halo Infinite will continue to see new content. The question now is if we’ll see a new Halo installment come out sooner than what the developers had initially planned.

At any rate, if you haven’t already given Halo Infinite a go, this title is readily available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms. It’s worth noting that this is also a game accessible through Xbox Game Pass. Likewise, the multiplayer component for Halo Infinite is free-to-play.
