FuryFingers’ Latest Short Film Is A Hilarious Take On The Division

March 9, 2016 by Ian Miles Cheong

The Diversion is a short film take on The Division.

Our friends at FuryFingers have been rather busy as of late, with short films up for both Pac-Man and Rise of the Tomb Raider. Today, they’ve released their latest film set in Ubisoft’s recently released online shooter, The Division. In this film, SHD Agents hit the street with a cunning new plan to take out the bad guys who’ve all but overrun the streets of Manhattan.

It’s pretty hilarious.

The film was sponsored and funded by Ubisoft as a part of their promotional push for the game. We have no problem with that, especially since the stuff they’re making actually happens to be entertaining.

Creating a wintery New York City in a small town in Adelaide during the Summer wasn’t an easy feat for FuryFingers, who tell me that they carefully chose a few alleyways and made their film over a period of three long nights to create the impression.

To create the right look we used smoke and snow machines, film lights, winter outfits and make-up to create icey New York.

Cody Porter of Cody MakeUp used various effects to create a snow burnt and heroic look.

We were able to focus on these creative tools with the added budget Ubisoft provided us. As an emerging channel it’s really cool to have the finanical support of such a strong and established game-company. They approached us to make something cool based on our previous body of action-comedy work.

We wanted our film to focus on the fun side of online play, so that it felt more like online players were mucking around in the open world. This also gave us an opportunity to show off the game’s many new weapons and tools.

We recruited JusZCosplay for the lead female role, as a cosplayer Justine brought her own costume to set and eagerness to perform. We really value cosplayers involvement in our films. ‘Floksy Locksy Cosplay’ also featured in a smaller role.

The Fine Folks of ‘Task Force Taipan’ also leant us a hand. They produced all the weapons and many of the costume peices. Harrison Weir built the relays and constructed the Cleaner tanks from scratch.
