Upcoming Sony Sci-Fi RPG Has Leaked, Possibly Made By People Can Fly

January 9, 2023 by Ryan Parreno

If this is all true, it’s an interesting peek into Sony’s plans for 2023.

Some alpha footage of an upcoming Sony video game has leaked, with some interesting names attached to it.

The footage shows a man running towards a balcony. Overhead, a giant creature is scaling a tower in front of him. We can’t share the footage, but will note that the visual quality is of course, not an indication of the final product. This leak is of the project in its alpha stages and the developers have definitely gone far ahead of it since then.

The original source, using the handle John Elden Ring, has this information to share alongside the footage. This game is a sci-fi RPG being built on Unreal Engine 5. It is either a first or second party game in development with XDEV. As we had noted, this is an early build.

For folks who may not know, XDev is one of several studios that came out of the closed Studio Liverpool, originally known as Psygnosis. XDev’s main job is to manage development for games that aren’t being made by Sony’s main studios like Santa Monica Studio. Among the games it has worked on are the  trivia party game Buzz!, racing game MotorStorm, and platformer LittleBigPlanet. We had last reported that they were working with Team Ninja for the PlayStation 5 exclusive title Rise of Ronin. XDev’s name being attached guarantees that this is a Sony project. Notably, it could still release to PC and mobile, given Sony’s new focus, but will definitely be on PlayStation.

Another insider, using the handle Dusk Goldem, has shared comments on the title. For the sake of maintaining clarity we will discuss their comments separately, as either Dusk or John may have correct or incorrect information.

Dusk suggests that this is an “ooey, goeey” video game that he describes as the ooze game. This is supposedly key to the game concept, but he will not disclose more at this time. Dusk also says this game is now at a point where it has received its own music and has been fully voice acted. He cannot confirm if this project will definitely come out.

Other people have chimed in with their own comments, as someone using the handle ImBald says they were only able to confirm the studio making the game with XDev is based in Europe.

Most recently, a newer screenshot has come out linking this alpha footage to what appears to be a People Can Fly presentation. The screenshot shows the People can Fly logo, and a listing of their five projects. People Can Fly made this information public last May, and we know about Outriders, the one title that has been published.

To review, the other titles they had named are codenamed Gemini, a project with Square Enix, Dagger, a project with Take-Two Interactive, Bifrost, a self-published game, and two projects in the concept development phase, Victoria and Red.

To be clear, it is possible any of these four projects could be this leaked game. People Can Fly working with Square Enix or Take-Two Interactive does not mean those titles are ruled out as PlayStation projects or exclusives.

It’s certainly been an interesting start of the year. As John Elden Ring warned Sony and other game companies, more leaks are forthcoming in the future.
