The PlayStation TV, a variant of the PlayStation Vita meant to be used in the home, has been officially discontinued in Japan.

The official PlayStation TV product page on the Sony website no longer offers it for sale and indicates the product’s status.

Originally announced and released in 2013 in Japan, the PlayStation TV, also known in some regions as the PlayStation Vita TV, was a microconsole with Vita hardware, but no built in controls or screen. Instead, it connected to monitors via HDMI, and was compatible with both the Dualshock 3 and Dualshock 4.

The PlayStation TV has a slot to play Vita games, but is not compatible with the entire Vita library. Touch controls was partly emulated on the  Dualshock 3 and Dualshock 4, but there are still some games which are essentially unplayable on the console due to design constraints. It could also play digital PlayStation, PlayStation Portable, and PC Engine games, and use the PlayStation Now service to play PlayStation 3 games.

The PlayStation TV also boasted the ability to stream PlayStation 4 games via Remote Play. It could do this even if the PlayStation 4 was in another room, so two gamers in the same household could play PlayStation 4 games at the same time. It could also stream media services like Hulu, Nicovideo, and the PlayStation Store.

The PlayStation TV was made available in the US and Europe in 2014, and is still available in these regions. It’s also received price cuts in 2015 in January in the US and March in the UK.
