The Pokémon Company and Game Freak’s celebration of the Pokémon series’ 20th anniversary is well underway as the new trailer for the original games’ re-release on Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console shows. As the series marks an important birthday by returning to its roots, we get another chance to see how the original Pokémon Blue, Red, and the enhanced and modified Yellow will look and play when they land on 2DS and 3DS systems on Saturday, February 27th.
Nintendo’s UK YouTube channel has posted the new trailer to get fans ready for the upcoming launches, and you can check it out above.
Those of you who’ve been following the series since in began in 1996 will get a powerful dose of nostalgia as you check out the very first games in their original untouched monochromatic glory. Pokémon Yellow, meanwhile, offers muted colours and a range of other modifications.
The games will cost $12.45 each and take up 11MBs or 8 blocks of memory on your system. A great way to please long-time fans, the re-releases should also please series newcomers eager to experience how it all began. In many ways, all of the fundamentals of the Pokémon series have been there since the beginning, though of course, in those days there were far fewer pocket monsters to collect than there are now.
Nintendo will be releasing a special New 3DS bundle in North America including pre-installed copies of Blue and Red. In Europe, players will have the chance to choose from specially themed Blue, Red, and Yellow 2DS bundles. Japan has the best deal of all, with Green also being released there alongside physical copies of the games.
Pokémon Blue Version, Red Version & Yellow Version will launch on 3DS Virtual Console on February 27th. If you haven’t seen it, be sure to check out Pokémon’s Super Bowl ad from earlier this month.
