A Walk in the Dark Might Be the Prettiest Indie Game You’ve Never Heard of

November 22, 2011 by Josh Harmon

The new action platformer from Flying Turtle Software has gorgeous graphics and cats. Sign me up.

Portugal-based indie dev Flying Turtle Software has unveiled their first major project, A Walk in the Dark. As you can see from the gameplay snippets scattered throughout the above debut trailer, A Walk in the Dark is an action platformer with a visual style that's nothing short of stunning. The two-man team at Flying Turtle Software has taken cues from successful black-and-white releases — Limbo and The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom spring to mind — and added in a painterly dash of color.

You'll be taking on the role of Bast, a cat who sets off into a dark fantasy world to find his owner. Gameplay details are currently scarce, but what's on display appears to be something like VVVVVV meets Super Meat Boy with cats. That might be the single most Internet-friendly sentence I've ever typed in my life, so it's clear that Flying Turtle knows their target audience well.

Look for A Walk in the Dark to hit for the PC sometime next year.
