The third and final instalment of the experimental 2D series Assassin’s Creed Chronicles has concluded today with the launch of Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: Russia. A physical bundle is also available at retail today and comes with all three games, a fact reflected in the above trailer.
Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China was the first game, and saw players travel the Asian country in 1526 as Shao June (who appeared in Assassin’s Creed: Embers) and featured a short cameo by Ezio Auditore, the protagonist of Assassin’s Creed 2, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, and Assassin’s Creed Revelations.
This was followed by a journey to India in 1841 with Arbaaz Mir (the star of Assassin’s Creed: Brahman) and now to Russia in 1918 with Nikolai Orelov (who was the focus of Assassin’s Creed: The Fall).
Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: Russia is available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The trilogy will also be launched as a bundle on PlayStation Vita on April 5th and Sony’s handheld seems like the ideal platform for the trilogy.
Ubisoft has not yet announced any mainline Assassin’s Creed game for release this year but rumours suggest that the publisher will bypass 2016 and release Watch Dogs 2 to fill the gap. According to reports, a decision was made following the buddy launch of Assassin’s Creed: Unity in 2014 to extend the upcoming game’s development cycle in order to iron out as many issues as possible before release.
The game will reportedly be called Assassin’s Creed Empire and casts players as a former slave in ancient Egypt. Ubisoft hopes this will mark the beginning of a Roman trilogy.
If this is true, there will still be new Assassin’s Creed content this year, in the form of the movie which lands in cinemas in December.
