Report: Skyrim Sold 3.4 Million Units in Two Days

November 15, 2011 by Lyle Smith

In other news, people love video games.

Well, I sure am glad that I did all my shopping online, because it must have been a crazy few weeks at the mall.

Modern Warfare 3 isn't the only one with staggering numbers in sales; VG Chartz is reporting that The Elders Scrolls V: Skyrim has sold 2.5 million copies in the Americas and 950,000 in Europe just two days after its release. VG Chartz also states that 59% of units were sold on the X360, 27% on the PS3, and 14% on the PC.

Those numbers smash Oblivion's two-day sales by over 600% (490,000 copies) and will most likely outsell the prequel as a whole in a matter of weeks. These numbers don't even include the digital sales; Steam alone could add another million copies to the mix.

Even though Skyrim was hugely anticipated, no one could have guessed that it would sell so many copies so fast, and being a role-playing game, those numbers seem even more impressive.

Let's celebrate its success by watching a video showing off one of the many reasons why it could, and should, be game of the year:
