Looking forward to Akuma in Tekken 7 Fated Retribution? Bandai Namco has posted a new video revealing how the Street Fighter character will play.
Surprisingly, it seems Akuma has preserved his core moveset from the Street Fighter games. Specifically, players from Street Fighter IV will see a lot of moves and feature carried over. The video shows off practically all of the core essentials of his moveset, including his jump-in combo starter, Dragon Punch, fireballs, and even his Raging Demon. He also retains a super bar unique to him. Interestingly, Akuma’s fireballs may have been nerfed considerably, since they can be handled in different ways, using different moves. In some cases, a simple sidestep may be enough to avoid them.
Of course, Tekken uses four buttons, whereas Street Fighter uses six, so we know in advance Bandai Namco didn’t carry over everything Akuma can do. It should be interesting to see what Akuma is and is not capable of when Tekken 7 Fated Retribution finally releases.
The video also shared details about the new combat system the rest of the cast will be using. The system still uses Rage, a state you enter when your life bar goes low enough. From here, you can use Rage Arts, which are basically Tekken’s version of finishers. Rage Attacks are an alternative to Rage Arts that also uses Rage. Each character’s Rage Attack can have different properties. For example, some characters can start juggles from their Rage Attacks, while others get huge knockback. Lastly, there are Power Crush moves. These moves can absorb enemy attacks from medium and high, and won’t be interrupted. In other words, you can use these moves to stop your opponents in their tracks and keep striking.
Tekken 7: Fated Retribution is planned for release on PlayStation 4 in 2016 and will also be coming to Xbox One. Check out the new trailer below.
